NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION

by Scot Siegel

Maybe some overhead wires cross,
and a new satellite turns toward us
in that slow-space-way that orbiting things
move; and maybe, a message

descends, and it’s from a parallel
universe, where others like us, but
different, have a new kind of language
and it’s called listening –

(In a child’s voice…)

Your world is in danger;
how much longer it will last
we cannot tell you;
we are only the listeners –

This measure, sponsored
by no one in particular,
but the world, your
world, in general:

Resolution 08-001

(The satellite turns as she
calls the question…)

Resolution 08-001: A Call to
End All War

It has been moved
and seconded –

Is there any discussion –?

Hearing none,
all those in favor

Signify by saying,
                              “Aye”

Those opposed?
