AFTERTHOUGHT

by David Chorlton

As long as there is one
call still among the trees
we listen. It is the cuckoo

and we remember the notes
to repeat them when even
it has gone, the way

the mockingbirds
learned to imitate
the many ways our cell phones rang.

David Chorlton has two new chapbooks posted online, The Dreaming House and Dry Heat. Both draw on life in Arizona.
