IN OUR GARDEN OF GETHSEMENE

by Lillian Baker Kennedy

The brown pelican’s helpless

wings bare
a kind of cross.

We know that feeling
when, on our knees, we trusted,
even God, when (We -

“See.  We go with them.”)

were dying; when
someone we loved
was dying.

We watched.

Piteous supplicant,
at Our Mercy.
