AUGUST 6, 1945

by Howie Good

Birds igniting
in midair.

Women
whose skin

hangs
from them

like a kimono.
Would it not

be wondrous
for this whole

nation to be
destroyed

like a beautiful
flower?

Howie Good, a journalism professor at the State University of New York at New Paltz, is the author of 18 print and digital poetry chapbooks and a full-length collection of poetry, Lovesick (2009).
