WHEN WE DEAD AWAKEN

by Howie Good

Punk musicians who overdosed in flophouses,
and child refugees who died in the camps,

and American soldiers killed in Afghanistan,
they pass each other on the worm-eaten staircase,

some shambling along, others racing up the steps,
but just about all of them sneakily whispering,

“Has anyone found T***p’s soul? Anyone?”
