by Earl J. Wilcox
I say to him
I think he’d be a good
Poet Laureate
don’t you
He says
yes I think so
even though
we could name
others
who also write
with as much
clarity
simplicity
authenticity
audacity
Yes I say
but who will
be brave enough
in our time
to write
and write
and write
and skip
all the
punctuation?
Earl J. Wilcox writes about aging, baseball, literary icons, politics, and southern culture. His work appears in more than two dozen journals; he is a regular contributor to The New Verse News. More of Earl's poetry appears at his blog, Writing by Earl.
