WHEN A VACCINE WON'T FIX STUPID

by Marsha Owens

we play roulette with the dying
wrap nurses in black plastic bags
one day it’s like a miracle
           easter will be glorious
 i wonder
   what i should do today
have always wanted to go to scotland
but i’ll go to my kitchen instead
circle my first world problem alone
 the stupid, it burns
