by Sarah Lazare

"Do you think we are animals—
that you can just throw us onto the street?"

I imagine these words ringing through the city council meeting,
Letting loose a shudder
before disappearing into the transcripts.

"The city is tearing down the housing projects in New Orleans
after thousands of black people have been killed and displaced."

The councilmen will thank them for their comments.

The land has already been sold.
