FROM THE REMAINS OF AMERICAN FLAGS

by David LaBounty

It doesn’t matter
who we’ve
slaughtered
bombed
or
tortured.
It doesn’t matter
because the
terrorists,
they’re still
winning
still
marching
through
my town
tearing
open my mail
reading
these lines
dipping
their hands
into my wallet
each time
I pump gas
or turn on
the lights,
and these
terrorists,
they don’t
look like
terrorists.
They wear
hoods and robes
like the cowards
of old,
hoods and robes
made from the
tattered remains
of
American flags.
