THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE

by Steven Kent

So listen, sheep: The earth is flat
(There's video to prove just that).
Each contrail you can see today
Was put there by the CIA,
While climate change is just a ruse,
A trick the Bilderbergers use
To dupe us now and gain control.
What's more, they mean to steal your soul
Through wicked work like plant-based meat,
Electric ovens for your heat,
Those 15-minute city plans,
And semi-auto rifle bans.
In fact, the Feds will take all guns,
Emasculate our manly sons,
Then bind us up with UN clamps
And ship us off to FEMA camps.

Bill Gates, we know, has killed a lot
Of people with his Covid shot,
Elections rigged--so neatly planned—
With checks George Soros wrote by hand.
We're red-pilled now, nobody's fools:
We watch and watch 2000 Mules,
Convinced that Biden cheated when
He won before, and will again!

A Swiftly conjured magic spell
May now control the NFL
Since Taylor is a psy-op drone
The Deep State here controls alone,
Her latest romance clearly meant
To reelect the president.
I'd still be in the dark, I'll bet
Had I not found the internet.
With Qanon right by my side,
My eyes at last are open wide:
Each truth another truth begat
Since I put on this tinfoil hat.

SENATE UNCERTAINTY

by Chris O’Carroll
In an appearance back in his home state of Kentucky, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R) downplayed the odds of Republicans reclaiming the Senate—and, by extension, him reclaiming the title of majority leader. In doing so, he suggested that “candidate quality” was a key factor.
“I think there’s probably a greater likelihood the House flips than the Senate,” McConnell said, according to NBC News. “Senate races are just different—they’re statewide, candidate quality has a lot to do with the outcome.” —The Washington Post, August 18, 2022

Mitchity-kvetchity,
Candidate quality
Doesn’t look great for the
GOP’s brand.

Voters seem cool to those
QAnonologists
Mouthing the lies MAGA
Wingnuts demand.

Chris O’Carroll is the author of The Joke’s on Me and Abracadabratude.  His poems have also appeared in the Potcake Chapbook series, New York City Haiku, Extreme Sonnets, Love Affairs at the Villa Nelle, and The Great American Wise Ass Poetry Anthology, among other collections.

QANON AND THE BUTTERFLIES

A Found Poem with the Species List of the National Butterfly Center

by Pepper Trail

Why did the National Butterfly Center in South Texas close last week? 🦋

In a country where many believe that Satan-worshipping pedophiles
run the government and the resurrection of John F. Kennedy Jr. will
restore a Trump presidency, the Butterfly Center has become
the latest unlikely victim of wild misinformation
and outright lies spreading rapidly online.
—The New York Times, February 6, 2022

How are we to make sense of this?
The Question Mark

Among the flowers are butterflies, only butterflies
The Monarch and the Soldier and the Queen
The Blue-eyed Sailor and the Painted Lady
The Dainty Sulphur and the Silver Emperor

All mingling together in peace
The Black Swallowtail
The Great Southern White
The Mexican Yellow

Outside the fence, all is fire and storm
The Malicious Skipper
The American Snout
The Fatal Metalmark

But here, can we not agree on beauty, at last?
            The Common Banner

I AM THE VERY MODEL OF A QANON CONSPIRACY

by Ellen Hawley McWhirter

I am the very model of a QAnon conspiracy
Born and bred to foster fear and rampant insecurity
And through the years, you must admit
I’ve gotten rather good at it:
I am the very model of a QAnon conspiracy.

I weaponize the people who feel left behind, and I compel
their loud attacks on science and on medicine and truth itself.
The stranger that my theories get,
The more that they are shared and spread
‘cause QAnon conspiracies, like COVID, are quite hard to quell.

The Democrats are stealing children underneath your very nose
Selling them and eating them and hardly anybody knows.
You must refuse to vaccinate;
Just drink some bleach and you’ll be great,
And watch out for the Deep dark State our hero Trump tried to expose

The national election it was stolen, it was clearly fraud:
Put Democrats and disagreers all before a firing squad!
The Bible and the Constitution
Call for bloody resolution
Get your guns and bombs, and know that Jesus surely would applaud.

The wearing of a mask is an affront to true civility
The bearing of a weapon anywhere is basic liberty
Mass shootings are a lie perverse,
And climate change is even worse
You must defend these truths with Christian hatred and hostility.

The only threat that worries me is thinking that is critical,
That shows my puppeteering, and is clear and analytical,
Exposes my hypocrisy,
and questions what’s in it for me,
and highlights common ground across our differences political.

Now if you think I’m bragging, it’s just not that hard to play this game
When people are unhappy and are seeking someone else to blame
A rumor and some blatant lies,
And 1-2-3 you’re polarized,
And Jewish lasers shot from space fan all the sparks right into flame.

I am the very model of a QAnon conspiracy
Fed by anger, ignorance, and hunger for identity
I’m anti-logic, anti-truth,
I’m anti-them and all for you:
I am the very model of a QAnon conspiracy.

OUR COUNTRY... NOT OUR BUSINESS

by Jan Gross

2020 Hindsight by Rob Rogers at The Nib.

Buyers beware!

We could lose our bid on the sale
Citizens no more, but customers
Truth no longer told, but sold
Off to the inside traitors

Bought out by big business
Walled in by Wall Street
Gutted by greed
Dealt out of the deal

His bottom line rules mighty
Regulations, taxes damned
Hail to the profit margin!
Protect the family brand!

Fake the facts!
Hype the hoax!
Let hackers and trolls
Surf coast to coast

Masses trumpet triumph
Chanting hate inspires
Winners one and none
Where QAnon conspires

Monuments stage his glory
A country’s reality show
A bible brandished on high
God’s Truth trampled below

Heroes stripped of honor
Fawners scale the ranks
On all sides fine people
Hateful words just pranks

Covid breathes calamity
Choked by one man’s vanity
Old age best begone!
Make way for the strong!

Refuse to don your face masks
Cures are easily taken
His own comeback is clear proof
Of experts long mistaken

He’s fair as honest Abe was
Not a racist bone in sight
With insults heaped on icons
He helps boost his loser’s plight

Dissenters face dismissal
Detractors face defeat
The bar of justice lowers
Tips the balance for deceit

Clear the way for order!
Twist the arm of law!
Protests pave the future
Marchers won’t withdraw

Black and white, or red and blue
Dividing lines he always drew
Will this storm bring rainbows
With hope to start anew?

Battle lines are hardened
The bitter end draws near

Time to line up
Time to fill in

Ballots to mail or not
Votes to cast once or twice

Votes to buy
To buy us time

Time to keep us
Here long enough

To see
… to see the turning of the tide
… for the tide has got to turn.

Author’s Note: This poem echoes James Baldwin’s plea to settle for what a vote can get you… maybe not a job, or a loan, or a major reform, but “it may keep [us] here long enough … to see, and use, the turning of the tide—for the tide has got to turn.”  (Written prior to the 1980 presidential election in “Notes on the House of Bondage” and quoted in Eddie S. Glaude Jr.’s Begin Again: James Baldwin’s America and Its Urgent Lessons for Our Own.)

Jan Gross is waiting for the tide to turn. She is Professor emerita at Grinnell College, and is co-authoring a collaborative poetic memoir about interracial friendship, Black & White and In-Between.

Q

by Kathleen Murphey

What Is QAnon: Explaining the Internet Conspiracy Theory That Showed Up at a Trump Rally. —The New York Times, August 1, 2018

Questionable, quagmire, quack, quackery, quandary, qualm, quail, quarrel, quash,
quasi, quaver, queer, quell, quench, querulous, quibble, quid pro quo, quietus,
            quip, quirk, quisling.

Q,  a fictional, Star Trek, New Generation, character, who thought humanity was a waste of time.
Q, an anonymous, conspiracy-theory blogger, who is content to further lies on
T***p’s behalf despite the hate and harm of T***p’s verbal slime.
Captain Picard, on Star Trek, was put on trial by Q over the fate of humanity.
T***p, backed by Q, is shaking the foundations of American democracy
            and its integrity.

Q Clearance or Q Access Authorization, the Department of Energy’s highest security
clearance level—similar to Top Secret Clearance, hence Q’s claims to legitimacy
            by association.
Q, the 17th letter of the alphabet, when uttered by T***p, confirms the validity of Q’s
crazy conspiracy claims.  “Follow the rabbit whole.”
Everything is fine, T***p has everything under control, and everyone who
stands in his way will soon be sent to prison.  “Trust the plan.”
Leading Democrats are wearing ankle monitors because they are criminals.
                        “Bread crumbs”
Kim Jong Un was placed in power by the CIA.  “The Storm.”
JFK, Jr., isn’t dead.  “Activated, the beam of LIGHT.”

T***p just has to be right.
The Clintons are crooked, child molesters.  “Lock her up!”
The media is unfairly critical of T***p.  Just look at SNL.
The media is spreading fake news:  “Enemy of the people” and “CNN sucks!”
Illegal immigrants are taking our jobs, “infesting” our country, with
                        “criminals” and “rapists.”
Climate change isn’t real; it’s just a scam to make us weak and lower our
                         productivity.
T***p didn’t collude with Russia.  “The Mueller investigation is a
                        Witch Hunt!”
The 2016 T***p election is a victory! “God bless fellow Patriots!”
                        “Great Awakening”
It can’t be a scam!  “We are Q!”
            I can’t believe it is a scam, so I’ll believe Q and T***p.  I just have too!

The alternative is too terrible to contemplate:
That we elected a traitor (a quisling),
That the Russians have compromised our country,
That we would be better off with crooked Hillary,
That we, T***p followers, are helping to destroy the fabric of our country,
That Fox News is Fake News and the major media outlets are right
                        and under assault,
No that can’t be!  It just can’t!  “Where we go one, we go all!”

QAnon!
QAnon!
It must be true!
We are Q!
Q!  Q!  Q!
Anything, but rational thought.
